Asamoah Gyan Slams Ghana’s “Below Average” World Cup Performance

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has delivered a candid assessment of Ghana’s performance following their 1-0 defeat to Colombia, describing the display as “below average” and insisting the South Americans fully deserved their victory, according to Complete Sports.
Ghana’s hopes of advancing at the World Cup came to an end after Colombia capitalised on a first-half opportunity to secure the only goal. Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading scorer, said: “No sense of urgency.”
He expressed concern about Ghana’s inability to commit enough players up front, noting that they “did not have men in the box.” He contrasted Ghana’s approach with Colombia’s, saying Colombia “kept fighting to score more” even after taking the lead. Gyan concluded: “Colombia deserved the win.”
Key Points:
Ghana’s lack of attacking urgency cost them in a crucial knockout match
The team’s inability to commit players forward limited their goal-scoring threat
Colombia’s tactical discipline and sustained attack proved decisive
The exit raises questions about Ghana’s tactical approach under Queiroz
Gyan’s critique reflects wider concerns about the team’s mentality
Ghana exits the World Cup with disappointment. The team must now regroup and rebuild ahead of future tournaments.

Pape Gueye Threatens to Quit Senegal After World Cup Collapse

Senegal midfielder Pape Gueye has sensationally threatened to quit international football in an explosive Instagram post following his team’s dramatic 3-2 defeat to Belgium in the World Cup Round of 32.
The 27-year-old Villarreal player declared he will no longer represent Senegal “as long as this technical staff” remains in place, posting: “I announce today that as long as it’s this technical staff I’ll take a break from the selection.”
The outburst came after Gueye was substituted in the 64th minute with Senegal leading 2-0, before Belgium staged a remarkable comeback. Coach Pape Thiaw defended the substitution, citing fatigue and insisting changes were forced by physical condition. The defeat adds to Thiaw’s controversial history, including the overturned AFCON final against Morocco.

Gueye’s threat could divide the squad ahead of future tournaments
The substitution decision will be debated for years to come
Thiaw’s coaching future is now in serious doubt
The crisis undermines Senegal’s status as Africa’s top team
Senegal faces an uncertain future. The federation must decide whether to back Thiaw or risk losing key players like Gueye.
