Nigerian Students Win Gold at Spelling Bee World Cup in China
Team Nigeria has won the Gold Award in the Middle School Group Category at the 2026 Spelling Bee World Cup in Shanghai, China, marking the country’s first-ever appearance at the global competition.
The Nigeria Spelling Bee announced the achievement on its Facebook page. Two students from Ar-Raheem International College, Ilorin, Maryam Yusuf and Abdurrahman Yusuf, won medals at the competition.
The four-member team also included Oluwadamilola Adeolu of St. Lawrence Metropolitan College, Ado-Ekiti, and Chinedu Okediachi of Madonna International Schools, Asaba. Team Nigeria qualified for the World Cup after competing at the African Spelling Bee Championship in Harare, Zimbabwe.
