Victor Osimhen Opens Up on Education Plans After Retirement
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has reiterated his plans to return to school and obtain a university degree, saying he wants to set an example for young people who dropped out due to challenges.
In an interview with Instablog that resurfaced on Monday, the 2023 African Footballer of the Year acknowledged that while life has taught him invaluable lessons outside the classroom, formal education remains something he hopes to complete.
The Galatasaray forward, who dropped out during Senior Secondary School Three to focus on football, said a playing career has a limited lifespan of 20 to 25 years.
Osimhen, born in Edo State, rose to prominence as top scorer at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup and has since become one of Europe’s elite strikers. He urged the younger generation to understand that dropping out does not have to mean the end of one’s academic journey.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino told Swiss news platform Blue News that the organisation’s relevant committees will discuss the potential expansion following the current World Cup, co-hosted by the US, Mexico and Canada.
Infantino argued that including more teams gives “smaller countries” an “incentive to keep improving” and described the expansion from 32 to 48 teams as “100 percent” successful, pointing to nine of ten African teams advancing from the group stage.

FIFA has announced the match officials for the 2026 World Cup semi-final between France and Spain, with experienced Salvadoran referee Ivan Barton set to officiate the blockbuster clash at Dallas Stadium on Tuesday.
