Rescued pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire LGA, Oyo State, are expected to reunite with their families today (Monday) following their anticipated formal handover by the military to the Oyo State Government.
The victims, who regained their freedom on Friday after 56 days in captivity, have been receiving medical treatment and psychosocial support at the 2 Division Nigerian Army Medical Services, Odogbo Barracks, Ibadan.
Governor Seyi Makinde had disclosed they would remain under medical observation for 48 hours before being formally handed over. Families, including the husband of abducted principal Mrs Rachael Alamu, have been preparing for emotional reunions.
Meanwhile, traditional rulers in Oriire are calling for the upgrade of a police post to a divisional headquarters and the establishment of a military barracks to prevent future attacks.
