The Federal Government will seek compensation for businesses and properties abandoned by Nigerians returning from South Africa under its voluntary evacuation programme, according to Daily Trust.
Acting High Commissioner Alexander Ajayi disclosed this on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, stating that the government has begun documenting assets left behind by returnees.
Meanwhile, 271 Nigerians arrived in Lagos on Tuesday aboard an Air Peace flight, recounting harrowing experiences of intimidation and violent attacks.
Returnees described fleeing with nothing after their shops were destroyed and goods looted. One returnee described relocating to South Africa 14 years ago as “the biggest mistake” of his life. Many appealed to the Federal Government for financial support to rebuild their lives.
